Definition of Stamina:

  • Strength of physical constitution

  •  Power to endure

  •  Durability

  •  Vigor

  •  Staying power

Softball is mainly an anaerobic sport.  It requires explosive movements from quick bursts of energy.  Because of this, certain conditioning principles and methods should be used for training, such as:

·
 Plyometrics
·
 Sprint and form running mechanics
·
 Metabolic training
·
 Agility and reaction drills
·
 Core stability
· Proprioception
·
 Hand-eye coordination
·
 Functional training and flexibility

In order for optimal performance, one must train the body the way it will be used.  To succeed, one must possess STAMINA.

Comments from the Program Director

Marie Maese-Thomason, MS-Exercise Science

The number one goal of STAMINA is injury prevention. By focusing on this goal, it will allow necessary neuromuscular adaptations to occur resulting in improved performance.

The development of this program consists of periodization which will use 3 cycles (3 weeks each).  With in each cycle, the athlete will be challenged in a new way, leading to optimal performance enhancement.

Each athlete will also be tested in the areas of: Speed, explosiveness, power, muscular endurance & strength before and after the program.
